Basically Penny items are Clearance items that should have sold at 90% off and were just never sold . They were overlooked by the employees removing past due stuff from shelves.
So it is hard to find anything that is a penny if you have a store that is good about removing old inventory. My assessment is the older stores may have some items that have lingered around in the Clearance section from past seasons.
Right now if you find a summer item on shelves it would most likely be pennied unless it has reset so that is the tricky part
It is always best not to ask employees for the penny items, because finding them is just letting them know they are not doing their job. Some may even refuse to sell it to you . but Dollar store policy is that they sell everything in your cart. you can always ask for a price check before you buy it and say you don't want it if it is not a penny

The rule of thumb is 50% 70% 90% once an item reaches 90% the item (s) should penny out within 2 weeks
They can refuse a Sale but the rules for DG says they should sell it to you if it is in your cart. I wouldn't fight them over it tho
- The codes Dollar General uses
- F =Fall ,
- S= Summer and the year 12,13,14, and now 15
- so it would be S14 =Summer 14
Some Items recently pennied are orange or yellow sticker and S14 you have to search , usually if it is a store that keeps a lot of the items in stock that are clearance out
Look for a combination of codes and color but nothing is guaranteed
the shelves and organizers that are pennied
they need to be these exact boxes and price . the cube organizer has to be espresso color 2 cube
