What are Dollar General,Penny Items ?

Pennied items are not a sale  , they are items that are marked a penny for removal from the store , after an Item from the past season has exhausted all percent off sales   , the item is automatically marked one penny , this is done so Employees can remove the item from the store and it is easier to locate or when rung up they know it should be searched and remove the remaining items.
DG Policy states that if a customer finds a penny item , the cashier or attendant must sell the item of items in the shoppers cart and the employee must then search out the remaining items for removal .
If you are given a hard time about the penny item whether it is the cashier or manager refusing to sell the item , you may politely show them a copy of the policy which is on the dg website . you can also politely ask to have it sold . I personally would not want to cause a stink . I would just leave.

It is important to know that originally the Penny Items were not sold to the customer , they were just merely told that they item was not to be sold and they would say something like it was a recall or defective. Because of so many complaints from customers the Dollar General Corporate offices decided to allow the sale of these items . , there is word that they may go back to not allowing the sale again fyi
